Just a reminder... OpenDNS does this kind of redirection, too (that's how 
they fund the service).  It's a valid business model.  Annoying, IMO, but 
valid.

Local DNS cache servers are a reasonably good solution, even for relatively 
small pipes and slow computers.  Something that can look directly at the 
root servers and resolve things will generally improve performance.  Using 
your own DNS (instead of your ISP's) will innoculate you from these 
money-grab behaviors.
