It depends on who you need to exchange email with.
For the past couple years, my websites and email have been hosted through
an Embarq (was Sprint) DSL line. I pay extra for a static IP address.
So far, the only issue I've had is exchanging email with people at my
bank, which is a smaller local bank. Embarq does not seem to capture port
25 as some ISP's do.
One thing you may have problems with, even if you do have a static IP, is
DNS. For a while I ran my own DNS servers (as I had for a long time when
I had colocation), but I started having problems where inbound connections
on the DNS port would sporadically drop. I didn't notice this with
inbound ssh, httpd, or mail, just DNS. The solution was to have my
registrar (Register4less.com) host my zone files.
