Well, I tried taking "quiet" out of grub's menu.lst (and I can
see why they have that option), but after wading through gobs
of output, nothing struck me as significant.
For the moment, I've gone back to using the old 2.6.24-16-generic
kernel. It has other problems, but it does resume after a
suspend or hibernate. Unfortunately, the -17 kernel that I had
been using apparently was overwritten by its own replacement --
the one with the problem -- and was lost. Serves me right for
not taking a backup first, I suppose.
Hope it's just a glitch that will be remedied with the next set
of updates. Thanks for your help, Jim.
